Parkview to Host First Annual Owego Zombie Fest

Sep 12th, 2013

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
September 12, 2013

Owego, NY -- The Owego Parkview Hotel and Restaurant in Owego, N.Y. has some haunting activities planned for the community this October as they present the first annual “Owego Zombie Fest” on October 26 at their 145 Front Street establishment. The event will include a performance of Michael Jackson’s "Thriller" by students from Full of Grace Dance Studio, a Flash Mob, and then a Zombie Walk through Owego. The event will culminate at the Parkview with a performance by “Recycled Zombies” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The event is free of charge to the community.

During the day, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., the community is invited to come to the Parkview to “Get Your Zombie On.” Available will be artists who will assist with face painting and aesthetics for a $2.00 donation.

From 4:45 to 5:15 p.m., students from Full of Grace Dance Studio in Berkshire, NY will emerge from a smoke-filled stage located in front of the Parkview, and then entertain with a full performance of Michael Jackson’s "Thriller." This performance will be complimented by a nearby Flash Mob, who will lead the Zombie Walk.

A 4:00-4:30 p.m. registration by participating zombies will earn them a chance to win prizes throughout the evening to include a barbecue and zombie hunt at Turkey Trot Acres, a Zombie Fest t-shirt, or dance lessons at Full of Grace Dance Studio. T-shirts for the event will be on-sale throughout the evening, and will also be available earlier in the week at the Tioga County Visitor’s Center located at 80 North Avenue in Owego.

Portions of Front Street from Park Street to Parker Lane will be closed throughout the event, and the Zombie Walk will proceed through the Village of Owego, with the route to be determined.
At the conclusion of the walk, the Recycled Zombies will entertain guests from 6:30 to 9 p.m. with their “metal meets rock” style and their ghoulish theatrics on stage. Recycled Zombies are growing in popularity, and will rock with songs like Abercrombie Zombie, a favorite among fans. Because of their style that blends metal with rock, the Recycled Zombies were recently invited to perform at the Ronnie James Dio Tribute held in Cortland, NY.

The idea for the zombie event came to organizers during Shelter Slam, held in August at the Choconut Inn in Pennsylvania. While observing the Recycled Zombies performwith their bloodied ax and machine gun guitars, a thought came across, “Why not host them in Owego, and bring in all the Zombies out there?” Recycled Zombies member Tom Sedlock was quick to oblige, along with members James (Packrat) Bates, Jim Popeck and Bob Phelps.  “We love to do this kind of stuff,” said Sedlock of the scheduled Zombie Fest.

Beth Johnson from the Parkview plans to ready her business for Halloween, and notes that signs of hauntings within the building will make the experience even better for guests.

Because of the nature of these events, the organizers are recommending that only those 16 and older participate. However, those younger than 16 may arrive to view the performance and walk if accompanied by an adult, and at the discretion of their parent or guardian. Prizes will be awarded throughout the evening.
