Riesling Trifecta: Dr. Frank's Takes Third Top Honor for Riesling

Feb 23rd, 2015

Hammondsport, New York – February 23, 2015 – As if winning two top Riesling honors at two consecutive competitions already this year wasn’t incredible, Dr. Konstantin Frank Wine Cellars did it a third time this past weekend.  Dr. Frank’s was named “Riesling Champion” for the 2013 Riesling Reserve at the International Eastern Wine Competition, which is one of the oldest and largest professional wine competitions in the United States.

Prior to the International Eastern Wine Competition, the Dr. Frank 2013 Semi-Dry Riesling won top honors at the San Francisco Chronicle Competition and Florida State Fair International Wine Competition.  Since 1962, Riesling has been the star varietal in the Dr. Frank portfolio.  “The number of awards won for Dr. Frank’s Rieslings each year is an indication of quality.  Our Rieslings have always been our top selling wines because they are consistent and complex expressions of the Finger Lakes,” said winery president Fred Frank.

The Chateau Frank Célèbre, a sparkling Riesling made in the méthode champenoise, won a gold medal at the International Eastern Wine Competition as well.

Located on Keuka Lake a few miles north of Hammondsport, Dr. Konstantin Frank Vinifera Wine Cellars has long been associated with the New York wine revolution. Its founder, Dr. Konstantin Frank, helped pioneer the introduction of the European vitis vinifera grapevines in the eastern United States. For his contributions in the American wine industry he was inducted into the Wine Spectator’s “Hall of Fame.”
