The Museum is open late, 9:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m., seven days a week, May 27 through September 2.
Adult admission is $15.00. A special rate of $6.00 is offered to residents living in the 148, 149 and 169 ZIP codes. Kids and teens, 19 and under, receive free admission.
A focus of programming this summer is glass beads. Visitors can see the exhibition, Life on a String: 35 Centuries of the Glass Bead, watch live beadmaking demonstrations and make their own glass bead (glass beadmaking experience is for ages 14+ and requires an additional fee).

Life on a String: 35 Centuries of the Glass Bead
May 18, 2013–Jan 5, 2014
Symbolizing power, enabling ornamentation, and facilitating trade, glass beads are miniature masterpieces that have played significant roles throughout time and across cultures. This major exhibition explores glass beads and beaded objects made by various cultures, representing 3,500 years of human history. Life on a String: 35 Centuries of the Glass Bead showcases, for the first time, many important works from the Museum’s large historical glass bead collection, as well as objects on loan from seven institutions. Half-hour guided tours of the exhibition will be offered on Wednesdays, June 26–August 28, at 2:00 p.m. Included in Museum admission.
Masters of Studio Glass: Richard Marquis
On view through February 2, 2014
Richard Marquis has had an extraordinary influence on the development of contemporary studio glass. The works in the exhibition clearly reflect his understanding of color and form, as well as his sense of humor and willingness to experiment. Included in Museum admission.
The Flood of ’72: Community, Collections, and Conservation
On view through January 3, 2014
On June 23, 1972, Corning and surrounding communities were devastated by a major flood, as a result of Tropical Storm Agnes. Hundreds of objects were broken, Library materials were saturated with flood water, and the facility was covered with a thick layer of slime and mud. This Rakow Research Library exhibit chronicles the determination of Museum staff and the community to rebuild, and sheds light on the unique conservation techniques that were used to restore Library materials.Free admission at the Rakow Research Library of The Corning Museum of Glass.

Bead It! for Families
June 8
In this special family activity (for ages 8+ with adult), you’ll explore the world of beads. Start with a guided tour of the special exhibition, Life on a String. You’ll learn about the history of beads and the ways they have been used by different cultures. Then, watch a glass Beadmaking Demo and use beads to create a piece of art or jewelry. 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. $10 per person; registration is required. Meet the Artist: Michael Glancy
June 20
Hear a free public lecture by artist Michael Glancy, whose abstract vessels explore nature, science, and metaphysics. Glancy’s pieces begin as cell-like patterns and arcane notations jotted down on paper. The objects slowly acquire form and texture, shaped and revealed by cutting, sandblasting, and the application of copper through an electroforming process in which the objects are attached to electrodes and placed in a chemical bath. Glancy’s pieces evolve from each other, and they are essentially organic. His finished objects—elegant, self-assured vessels grounded on a field, or base plate—have the demeanor of a figure in a landscape. Even though the work is abstract, nature is always present. Glancy studied glass with Dale Chihuly at the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in the 1970s. Today, he is an adjunct faculty member of the metals department at RISD. Glass Camp: Art Experts
August 5–9
People have been making glass into useful and artistic items for thousands of years. At Glass Camp, kids ages 12–13, will learn about glass made in ancient Egypt, designed by modern artists like Salvador Dalí and Picasso, and more. Campers will experience art through creative projects, gallery hunts, writing activities, and a hands-on glass experience. Beginning Glassblowing for Teens Studio Class
August 5–9
Teens, ages 14–16, with no glassworking experience can dive into this five-day, hands-on opportunity to work with molten glass. Instruction will focus on basic processes and safety for shaping hot glass. Students will develop team-working skills while working in the hot shop.
