Sundaes at the Farm: FREE Family Event

Owego, NY -- Visit a working dairy farm and enjoy a FREE ice cream sundae with locally grown toppings.  

The Tioga County Agricultural Resource Group will host Sundaes at the Farm at Howland Acres on 178 Barden Road in Candor on Sunday, August 18, from 1 to 4 p.m. This free family event will educate and entertain families on a 90-cow working dairy farm, owned and operated by the Howland Family.

Attendees can enjoy a variety of activities, including self-guided tours of the farm, educational stations for those seeking to delve deeper into the farm operation, a scavenger hunt and helium balloons for the kids, farm equipment on display and more. Free ice cream sundaes will also be served by the Tioga County Dairy Princess, Kristy Alexander, and her court. Attendees can also sample free Bryne Dairy milk and chocolate milk, Chobani yogurt and Cabot cheese, all made with New York milk.

The farm family and members of the Tioga County agricultural community, including the Tioga County Soil & Water Conservation District and Cornell University Cooperative Extension of Tioga County, will be on hand to answer questions. There will also be a farmers’ market featuring local farm products for purchase, as well as a 4-H food booth and chicken BBQ.

Howland Acres is owned and operated by Rob and Darlene Howland who have been part of the Tioga County agricultural community for 40 years. The farm consists of 380 acres and is home to 180 dairy cattle. The Howlands take pride in their farm operation and are focused on producing high-quality milk for consumers.
