"Take a Hike!" on the Mitchellsville gorge section of the Finger Lakes Trail

Mar 29th, 2016

Take a hike this spring on Saturday April 23, 2016! Friends of Hammondsport Area Trails & Parks invites you to hike the Mitchellsville gorge section of the Finger Lakes Trail (FLT). This is the third in a series of downhill hikes that the “Friends” have held to help introduce people to the marvels of the local trails. This leisurely two-hour hike starts at County Route 13, is approximately 2.2 miles and ends at the Urbana Town Hall on Pleasant Valley Road. Between 9am and 10:30am “Friends” will drive hikers to the start. Leave your car at the Urbana Town Hall parking lot, hike the trail and have a hot dog when you get to the back to the Town Hall. This section of the FLT is mentioned as one of the most scenic sections of the overall FLT system. It is also part of the North Country Scenic Trail System.

At noon that same day, there will be a dedication of the newly built Pleasant Valley Trailhead located at the Town Hall. The “Friends” group has built the trailhead with donations from many sources and will present it to Town officials as their first effort to help create and coordinate the local trail and park system.

Please join us on April 23rd and take a walk on one of our trails, have a hot dog and become a "Friend", as we continue to make dreams into reality.

The next scheduled meeting of “Friends” is Wednesday April 13th at the Urbana Town Hall at 5pm. All are welcome.
