Walk in the Park: Episode 188 - Gorge Forest Update

Feb 23rd, 2018

Tony Ingram brings us another in his series looking at the beauty of the Finger Lakes region!

In Walk in the Park episode 188 (Feb. 2018), warm weather can fool us and tempt us to venture into dangerous ice-choked gorges in the Finger Lakes. And the thaw also has brought out the dangerous black legged ticks (“deer ticks”) that can transmit Lyme disease. But mostly we look at an update on the assault on our hemlock trees, a “foundation species” especially in our gorge forests, by the invasive insect, the hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA).

Next we check in with the Finger Lakes Land Trust, look at a short video about the four biggest waterfalls around Ithaca during warm weather a year ago, and finally see another video about “Glen Obscura” in Watkins Glen State Park.

You can watch this episode online using the link below, or on Ithaca NY cable channel 13
