Watkins Glen International Partners With New York State STOP-DWI to

Encourage Teens to Make Smart Choices Behind the Wheel

Students from Watkins Glen High School can take the pledge not to drink and drive

and win a special Prom Night Experience

WATKING GLEN, N.Y. (May 10, 2023) – Watkins Glen International and New York State STOP-DWI are teaming up to create a special VIP Prom Experience for local students. The track announced today that three lucky couples from Watkins Glen High School who take the pledge against drinking and driving could win a ride to and from prom in a Watkins Glen International official pace car this Saturday, May 13.

In addition to the prom night transportation, those three couples will also win a dinner for two at the Harbor Hotel and a pace car ride around the famed 3.45-mile road course.

“Supporting and growing our local community is something we always strive to do here at Watkins Glen International,” said Michael Printup, President of Watkins Glen International. “By partnering with New York State STOP-DWI, we’re not only able to encourage the young adults of Watkins Glen High School to make empowered choices, but also give them a one-of-a-kind experience on a momentous evening.”

The New York State STOP-DWI program is available in all counties in New York and seeks to reduce alcohol and drug-related driving injuries and fatalities. The organization provides extensive education for schools and community groups on the dangers of driving while intoxicated, as well as training for professionals, support for victims, and other various videos, tools and resources.

The New York State STOP-DWI Foundation is happy to be given the opportunity to partner with Watkins Glen International who is providing this great VIP experience and helping to spread awareness about impaired driving,” said New York State STOP-DWI Outreach Coordinator Sheryl Hutton. “We want to make sure these teenagers are creating positive memories. Spreading awareness of the dangers of impaired driving helps the teens to know if something goes wrong and they need a ride that they can call someone or use the STOP DWI APP to find a way to get home safely. Riding with someone that is impaired has the same dangers as driving impaired. They want to make sure that whoever they are in the vehicle with is sober when driving. A parent may not be happy with the decision a teen makes to drink or get impaired, but no parents ever want to get that call that there has been a tragic crash.”

Watkins Glen International and New York State STOP-DWI previously teamed up in 2020 to promote safe driving for fans and are expanding that message to the local students at Watkins Glen High School.

“We are excited to partner with Watkins Glen International to promote a safe prom season,” said Watkins Glen High School Principal Kyle Colunio. “The opportunity to provide an exhilarating experience for students attending the Watkins Glen High School prom is unique and will provide memories that will last a lifetime.”

Students at Watkins Glen High School can enter for a chance to win the VIP Prom Experience by signing up when purchasing tickets to the 2023 Prom and signing the pledge document.
