Wednesday Bike Night Expands to Offer More Entertainment in Owego

May 17th, 2013

Owego, NY - This summer, in downtown Owego, N.Y., a Wednesday Bike Night event will welcome motorcyclists for an evening of live entertainment, food and good times with friends. Bike Nights will kick-off on May 22, with live music by Tim Ruffo under the tent at the Parkview Hotel and Restaurant located on 145 Front Street, and will continue until Sept. 4, where Tim Ruffo Music will close out the weekly event. The event times are 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with live entertainment beginning at 6:30 p.m. On May 22, Andrea McBride will also kick things off with the Star Spangled Banner – initiating the opening.

Bike Nights began last year with the help of motorcyclist Bill Chandler, and drew a decent crowd at the Parkview Hotel each Wednesday, where music was provided by a disc jockey.

This year, in an attempt to grow the event, organizers will be bringing in weekly entertainment made possible, in part, through its sponsors – The Daily and SundayReview and the Owego Pennysaver, Skyview Drags and Shangri-La II. Additional raffles will be held during each event to help pay for the live music scheduled eachWednesday.

Musicians to be featured throughout the summer include Tim Ruffo Music, Voodoo Highway, Melanie and the Boys, Hover, One Click Culture, Dean Smith from Phillip’s Head, Playin’ Possum featuring Keith Nichols, Dirt Farm, Randy McStine, and The Cats out of Trumansburg, N.Y.

The live entertainment will take place under a tent at the Parkview Hotel and Restaurant, and motorcyclists will be able to park along Front Street and in front of scenic Draper Park overlooking the Susquehanna River and Owego’s Riverwalk. This setup, according to organizer and Parkview Restaurant owner, Beth Johnson, will allow the community to look at the motorcycles, and enjoy the talent slated to perform each Wednesday.

Shangri-La II and Skyview Drags, as sponsors of the event, will be offering special promotions throughout the summer at the Bike Night events. More details to be announced.

New, also this year is the addition of a Bike Night Art Market, which will setup at Draper Park during the event, will allow unique artists to join in the event and showcase their artwork. It will also add an additional element for the community to enjoy. To learn more about the Art Market, contact Alice Mischke by calling (607) 972-7849.

Downtown shops, such as the Black Cat Gallery, are planning to stay open on Wednesday evenings so they can be a part of the event. “We’re very excited about Bike Nights,” said Janelle Malia, co-owner of Black Cat Gallery.

The Owego Parkview will be featuring food specials throughout the evening, with clams and chicken spiedies to be featured on opening night. They will also have signs setup throughout the venue to direct regular vehicle and motorcycle parking.

The event, including the live music, is free of charge, and the community is invited to enjoy an evening of music and motorcycles by the river. The Parkview Hotel and Restaurant is located on 145 Front Street in Owego, N.Y. by the Court Street Bridge.
