Syracuse, NY. – WonderWorks, a unique attraction for people of all ages to experience science themed activities they’ll never forget, received their LEED© Silver certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC) this month, going above and beyond to integrate sustainable elements into their newest location at Destiny USA .
“We are absolutely thrilled with our formal certification, especially with the already unique elements of this WonderWorks location,” Todd Buchko, General Manager of WonderWorks, stated. “We had a great team working closely with us throughout the construction process to make this happen and I’m proud to have this as another educational element for groups and families visiting the venue.”
Guests are offered the chance to enjoy hands on fun throughout their journey through each exhibit. While experiencing what the venue has to offer, WonderWorks at Destiny USA also provides a unique ‘green’ experience. WonderWorks received approval for all seven of the listed requirements including Green Materials and Resources, Energy and Atmosphere, Water Efficiency, Sustainable Sites, Indoor Environmental Quality, Innovation In Design, and Regional Priority Credits. WonderWorks used recycled content, rapidly renewable materials and certified wood to ensure that the materials and resources are LEED© certified. This is the first WonderWorks location to obtain LEED© certification.
“As an interactive science learning center, WonderWorks presented many challenges to attain the sustainability requirements of LEED Certification.” Charles Bertuch, Office Manager of Bergmann Associates stated. “Wonderworks, the design team, and contracting team worked together to come up with strategies to meet the goals of this unique project.”
WonderWorks is located on the third level of the expansion. The entertainment venue will celebrate its certification during Destiny USA’s one year anniversary celebration on Friday, August 2nd at 10am on the first level in the Canyon Area.

WonderWorks is an amusement park for the mind combining education and entertainment in over 100 hands-on exhibits that will spark the imagination and challenge the mind. Interactive, educational and fun for all ages, those visiting the attraction will enjoy a variety of experiences including being blown away by 84 mile per hour hurricane-force winds, maneuvering the controls of a NASA spacecraft to land the shuttle, lying on a bed of 3,500 nails, piloting a fighter jet, designing and riding a 360-degree virtual roller coaster and competing in a game.
