Festivals, Happy Hour, Live Music, Theatre, and More!

It doesn’t matter what your interests are or who you’re in the Finger Lakes with, you can always find a great event to enrich your time in the region with those you care about.

Events take place all year round in the Finger Lakes region. From lakeside (and on the lake) events in the summer to harvest activities in the fall, snowmobiling or snowshoeing in the winter, and festivals in the springtime! Step inside a glassmaker’s studio to blow your own glass, stroll Main Street on a food tour, or gather for live music and theater performances. Browse the list of Finger Lakes events below or search the specific dates you will be visiting to see everything going on in the region.

Great Events that Happen Every Year

Below, you will find dozens of great events happening throughout the year with many of them happening annually. If you have memories of favorite annual Finger Lakes events from childhood such as cardboard boat regattas, hot air balloon festivals, cheese, apple or pumpkin festivals, to name a few, it’s likely that event that still takes place or, has likely improved your enjoyment. If you see a special event that piques your interest but can’t make it, click on the event anyway, it might be coming back next year!

Events Added Daily

Make sure to check back frequently to see if any other great events have been added. Events are added daily by businesses from every sector and interest so if there is nothing that sparks your interest now, there very well could be soon!

Scaling our Gorges

Each spring, the Finger Lakes State Parks Scaling Teams rappel down cliffs over Gorge Trails, manually removing shards of shale that winter freezing has left perched on ledges. If they didn’t do this hard, dangerous work, called “scaling,” it would not be safe enough for us to walk in the gorges, for fear of falling rock. Scaling must be conducted annually in six state parks in the Finger Lakes region. In this encore episode (167) of Walk in the Park from 2017, we take a close look at the scalers at work on the high cliffs in the upper gorge of Enfield Glen in Robert H. Treman State Park near Ithaca, NY. The scalers tell us and show us what’s involved.

Shakespeare on the Fly:

We are a group of professional actors highly skilled in performing Shakespeare. What brings us together is a desire to perform Shakespeare's plays in a way akin to the way they would have been performed in his day. That is - actors gather for the first time with lines already memorized and have a rehearsal called "Burbage Time" (after Shakespeare's leading player Richard Burbage) in which entrances, exits, brawls, kisses, chases & dances are established. Then we sleep on it and perform for an audience the next day. What happens is nothing short of magical - the audience and actors are working out the story together in real time.

Our mission is to go into communities & delight audiences with the pleasure, vitality, and accessibility of Shakespeare's language, while simultaneously taking that audience on an exploration of the provocative human themes that exist with his plays.

Dart Brothers
Dart Brothers CD Release Pre-Party

Saturday, April 20 · 6-9pm EDT

Tickets $15 HERE, $20 at the door

Welcome to the Dart Brothers CD Release Pre-Party at the Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts, Inc. (TCFA)! Join us for a night of live music, drinks, and celebration as we gear up for the official record release of their upcoming album due out this summer. This in-person event will feature intimate performances by the Dart Brothers themselves, along with stories and anecdotes around the band's history, and writing and recording of their upcoming release. They will be joined by special guest artist Rena Guinn opening the show. Come out and support local music while enjoying a fun and laid-back atmosphere. Don't miss out on this exciting evening of music and community!

A few tidbits from the band regarding their previous album, Strangest Wavelength:
"The Strangest Wavelength from The Dart Brothers, released in 2020 and nominated for Americana Record of the Year by the Syracuse Music Awards, comes through as a wonderfully powerful classic rock record that touches on Americana and Alternative Country even as songs roll on with passionate vocals and strong guitar work through and through. The Strangest Wavelength album is packed to the brim with some outstanding guitar sections that flow, and wail while vocals keep true to that country twang undertone and give the record a near perfect aesthetic. What's really cool about these songs is that they are a real display of mature songwriting from seasoned musicians and at the same time shows a ton of youthful energy. These are songs the guys had fun recording and performing and you can clearly hear that with just about every single track on the record. It kind of makes you want to see The Dart Brothers perform live."

Now is your chance to see this marvelous group perform live at TCFA. For more information about the Dart Brothers and their upcoming record, please visit: https://dartbrothers.com

Walk in the Park is a commercial-free, public access TV series produced in Ithaca by Owl Gorge Productions a Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance partner.

Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl

Four local yarn shops are planning the third annual Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl to celebrate Local Yarn Store Day on Saturday, April 27, 2024, from 10am – 5pm.   Needlecrafters are encouraged to visit all four shops and have their Yarn Crawl Passport stamped to be eligible for prizes. The participating shops are:

·       Blossburg Company Store at 224 Main Street, Blossburg, PA

·       Fiber Arts in the Glen at 315 N. Franklin St, Watkins Glen, NY

·       Rabbit Row Yarns & Haberdashery at 24 E. Market St, Corning, NY https://www.rabbitrowyarns.com

·       Wooly Minded at 91 E. Market St, Corning, NY

The Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl is an event for knitters, crocheters, spinners and weavers to travel from store to store exploring what each has to offer and finding inspiration for new projects. Each shop is planning unique promotions, trunk shows as well as exclusive fiber products for the festivities. Participants are encouraged to check out the Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl Facebook Group for event promotions, parking, dining, and carpool information.

“It's great fun!” Crawler Pat Jackson tells us. “Go with a friend, check out the yarn and things related to yarn, and afterward, compare your "finds".”

Knitter Ellen Kathan shares, “Last year was my first time participating in the Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl, and I had so much fun visiting each shop. The featured projects and yarns I purchased have been perfect for winter knitting.  Can’t wait for this year’s Yarn Crawl.”

And repeat Door Prize Winner, Ruth Riesbeck writes, “The Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl is a lovely way to spend a Saturday in April while supporting our local yarn shops.  I've participated in the first two crawls and have enjoyed my visits to the stores - it's not difficult to get to all four shops in one day, even if you start late!  Each shop is unique with its own personality.  I cannot say enough about the yarns that are available - they are beautiful, making decisions very, very difficult!  The shop owners have created inspiring and friendly environments to show off their yarns, supplies and other gifts.  They have something for everyone, beginners and experts alike.  I've been delighted with everything I've purchased and have been lucky enough to win some amazing door prizes!  I can't wait to be a part of this event again!”

The shop owners say, “As small business owners, we are delighted to host the Twin Tiers Yarn Crawl for the third year. Each shop showcases the immense variety of fiber products and a unique sense of community. We welcome our existing customers and encourage new fiber and needle art makers to come celebrate with us!”

Local Yarn Store Day is an annual yarn shop appreciation day created by The National Needlearts Association (TNNA). The 2024 LYS Day is designed to show support for small businesses while bringing together a unique community of enthusiasts to drive awareness and celebrate fiber craft. Vendors and retailers alike tout the benefits of locally owned yarn stores through an array of special products, classes, and more.

The line:

· Line begins no sooner than 7 am each day.

· Any abandoned personal items left in the line area are considered abandoned and will be discarded.

· Wait times to get into the sale and at checkout fluctuate. We are unable to predict how long they will be or are.

· There are no exceptions for “skipping the line,” including (but not limited to) pregnant women, elderly persons or those in recovering health. We rely on our shoppers to use their best judgment for their own health and comfort and remind them that no sale is worth endangering their health and safety.

· All sales are final.

· Warehouse Sale purchases are not applicable to our MacKenzie-Childs Rewards program and therefore do not earn MacKenzie-Childs Rewards points. MacKenzie-Childs Rewards redemptions will not be accepted at the Warehouse Sale event.

· Forms of payment accepted are cash and credit cards. No personal checks or MacKenzie-Childs gift cards can be accepted.

· Bags and shopping carts will be provided. Although we will have lots of carts at the sale, they are limited in number. We encourage you to bring your own cart, wagon, and/or reusable shopping bags to use while shopping, if you want to avoid waiting for one of our carts to become available. They will be checked upon entry to and exit from the sale.

· Warehouse Sale inventory is a mix of first-quality overstock and seconds. We strongly recommend that you inspect your purchases carefully for possible defects as all sales are final and items cannot be returned. It is the customer’s responsibility (not MacKenzie-Childs’) to check over products for any undesirable qualities prior to purchase.

· Product is restocked continually throughout the sale.

· We do not know or guarantee what will be offered at the Warehouse Sale, product- or inventory-wise, prior to or during the sale.

· MacKenzie-Childs reserves the right to cap multiple purchases of a single product at the time of checkout without prior notice.

· MacKenzie-Childs is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items. There will be a “lost & found” area at the sale; please see a staff member for assistance.

· This is an in-person sale event that cannot be shopped online or over the phone.

More details:

· Pets are not allowed into the Warehouse Sale. Please leave them at home. Service animals only.

· We recommend you leave infants and young children at home as we cannot predict the weather during the sale, with little to no shelter available when standing in line. We rely on

our shoppers to use their best judgment for their own health and comfort and remind them that no sale is worth endangering their health and safety.

As a saxophonist he often employs extensive instrumental preparations (such as drum heads, vibrators, amplification, balloons, etc) in conjunction with a broad dynamic tone that draws inspiration from the saxophonic tradition of Ben Webster and Sonny Rollins. I often work with Sarah Hennies, Lydia Lunch, Leila Bordreuil, William Parker, Weasel Walter, Psychic TV, Spiritualized, Han Bennink, and countless others. As a curator, Michael has run countless series throughout NYC including Queer Trash, a curatorial platform for LGBTQIA+ artists engaged in experimental performance practices. Queer Trash was awarded the 2018 Curatorial Fellowship at Issue Project Room and has since presented work at MoMA/PS1, and countless spaces around NYC.

Wednesday May 1st 6pm @ Grayhaven Motel Michael will be giving a free workshop on Queerness in Experimental Music followed by a ticketed performance by "The Ghost" trio.

Tickets can be purchased online until April 30th for $16.25 - OR- in person at Grayhaven Motel $15 cash advance / $20 cash door

The sale:

· Shipping options are not available. All items must be taken that day.

2024 Wine & Herb Event- May Weekend

Drink. Eat. Garden. Repeat. Jumpstart your herb garden by gathering potted herbs and veggies showcased in our delectable food samples, complete with a matching recipe collection.

Indulge in herb-infused dishes and discover the perfect wine pairing for each. Take home the recipes, ensuring you'll shine as the star chef at your next gathering. Plus, enjoy up to three additional wine tastings to complete your delightful experience.

  • April 27/28 and May 4/5 from 10am to 5pm, both days
  • 10 participating wineries
  • This event is structured like our pre-2020 events:
    • Select a specific starting winery for you and your friends to start at. (This is where you’ll receive your souvenir wine glass and first potted herb or vegetable plant!)
    • Travel the trail as you please after your first stop, collecting potted herbs or vegetable plants as you go.
    • The ticket is good for BOTH days, so feel free to spread the wineries out over both days or come on just Saturday or just Sunday. (Pro-tip: Sunday tends to be a lighter day, so the wineries won’t be as crowded, which makes for an excellent time to visit and get more one-on-one attention with less waiting.)
  • Groups are limited to 12.
  • Expect diversity. Some wineries will be offering the standard bar tasting while others will be offering a sit-down experience that may take longer. Take your time during the day and enjoy both!

Herbs this year are Basil, Broccoli, Cauliflower, Cilantro, Cherokee Purple Tomato, Dill, Oregano, Parsley, Rosemary, and Sweet Banana Pepper..

Tickets:

Each ticket is good for the whole weekend to visit each winery once. Single tickets are $65 and couples tickets are $95 (plus tax and service fee) and include:

  • 1 wine and food pairing at each winery, per person
  • 3 additional wine tastings per winery, per person
  • 1 potted herb or vegetable plant per ticket (1 for a single ticket, 1 for a single DD ticket, and 1 for a couples ticket)
  • 1 recipe collection per ticket
  • 1 souvenir wine glass per person

Discounted designated driver tickets are also available. The DD gets all the same perks as a regular ticket, minus the wine. They also get a DD travel mug, rather than a wine glass. $45 for a single (plus tax and service fee).
