Women’s council luncheon

Noon – 2 PM

The program will be by Ann Wilbur, a retired Penn Yan school teacher who has spent time twice at the Annunciation House in El Paso, Texas. After immigrants cross the border and have been processed by Federal Authorities, they are dropped off by the busload at the Annunciation House’s Shelters. Anne has helped welcome and serve families seeking asylum.

This is a great opportunity to find out more details about what really is happening to immigrants and to ask questions to learn more.

A SWEEPING ROMANCE THAT LIFTS YOU UP WHERE YOU BELONG!

AN OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN, based on the Oscar-winning film starring Richard Gere, is a breathtaking production that celebrates triumph over adversity and includes one of the most iconic and romantic endings ever portrayed on screen. Featuring the Grammy Award winning,#1 hit single ‘Up Where We Belong’, and a score based on the 1980’s catalogue of music that gave voice to a generation, the live stage production is a new adaptation by multiple Tony Awards nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Everyday Rapture), based on the original screenplay by Douglas Day Stewart. The musical is directed by Scanlan with choreography by Patricia Wilcox (Motown, A Night with Janis Joplin). Zack Mayo’s got smarts and a body built for US Navy pilot boot camp, but he also has too much swagger… until he meets a drill sergeant who’s determined to drill his arrogance out of him. Zack finds comfort in the arms of a local factory girl. But it isn’t until tragedy befalls a fellow candidate that Zack learns the importance of love and friendship, and finds the courage to be his best self and win the heart of the woman he loves.

The Clemens Center will follow all NYS guidelines for operation at the time of the performances.

Victoria Romanoff
Romanoff Redux - The TCFA 2021 Fall Invitational Gala

The Trumansburg Conservatory of Fine Arts is honored to feature a solo show of Trumansburg resident Victoria Romanoff for the 2021 Fall Invitational. Romanoff's intense colors and strong composition illustrate an individual style that has both humor and warmth. Her use of recycled wood, paper and metal elements create references to unbuilt monuments and forgotten or destroyed worlds.

Victoria Romanoff is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design and has an MFA from Cornell University. She is a long-time resident of Tompkins County. While pursuing a professional life in historic preservation Victoria has also continued her love of the visual arts, participating in both national and international exhibits. Her work can be found in the collections of the Cornell Herbert F. Johnson Museum and the Worcester Museum of Fine Arts, among others.

Our opening event will be an in-person outdoor gathering at the Conservatory under a tent on the TCFA lawn with wine, refreshments and old-world European jazz band French ConeXion. There will be a limit of 50 attendees (masks required) inside the gallery to view the show at any one time. There is no charge for admission. The show runs through Sunday, November 21 with open gallery hours every Friday and Sunday from noon to 4pm.

“I’m just trying to start a conversation.” — CREATOR LELAND GANTT

Written and performed by LeLand Gantt and developed at NYC’s Actors Studio by Estelle Parsons, Rhapsody in Black is a one-man show that explores LeLand’s personal journey to understand and eventually transcend racism in America. We follow his life story — from an underprivileged childhood in the ghettos of McKeesport, Pennsylvania to teenage experiments with crime and drugs to scholastic achievement and an acting career that land adult LeLand in situations where he is virtually the only African-American in the room. His efforts to cope with the various psychological effects of consistently being marked “The Other” is recounted in remarkable and exquisitely moving detail, guaranteed to leave lasting impressions. Multiple elements combine to give Rhapsody its super-powered emotional punch, many of them concentrated in the incredible persona of its star.

Charming, self-deprecatingly funny, linguistically awesome, LeLand Gantt imbues every word that falls from his mouth with all the passion and poignancy of a preacher speaking the Gospel. This is partly because he’s confronting heavy subjects, but mostly because he believes so firmly in his message that it’s impossible for it to emerge any other way. In his own words, “Objective truth strikes a chord.”

Please note that this show explores the topic of racism, and includes sensitive and difficult situations and language.

Made possible through the generous support of the John G. Ullman & Associates Foundation, Inc.

SUNNY DAYS and NIGHT TREE
Sensory Friendly Virtual Performance

Available for Streaming Monday, November 1 – Sunday, November 21, 2021

A MAGICAL TWO-PART FILM

SUNNY DAYS:

Feel, hear & smell the world around you. Roll in the long grass, scrunch it beneath your fingers & take a long deep breath. Sunny Days encapsulates the magic of being free, of moving with abandon, and playing in the outdoors. A dance film for little explorers.

NIGHT TREE:

Every year, in the middle of winter, we go into the forest to find our tree. Our special tree. We bundle up so we’re warm, with hats, gloves, shoes and coats. We travel through the trees. Among the leaves and muddy puddles. Listening to the birds sing. And watching for animals.
Come into the woods and dance as we go on a gentle, sensory journey through the beautiful wintery forest to find a very special tree…Squelch through mud, sip hot chocolate, and play amongst the pines! Night Tree is a magical two-part film based on Eve Bunting’s book of the same name.
The films are available with or without audio description and creative captions.

A note about Creative Captions
The company has worked with The Johnny Luu to animate and illustrate the narration of the films for young D/deaf audiences or anyone who enjoys reading and singing along!

Fall Wagon Tour through The Historic Seneca Army Depot at Deer Haven Park
2nd Annual Fall Wagon Tours

Join us on Saturday, October 23rd at 11 AM and again at 4PM for our 2nd Annual FALL Wagon Tour through Deer Haven Park!

You have seen the park from the comfort or your vehicle and even taken the white deer Bus Tour, now take a morning or afternoon open-air wagon ride through the former Seneca Army Depot! We will guide you through the unique habitat of Deer Haven Park where you will experience its vastness and the beauty of its flora and fauna as we discuss the historic importance of this former military munition storage base.

We will stop along the way, giving you the opportunity to get off the wagon and go inside one of the 122 abandon munition storage igloos in the park, and walk through a real personnel bunker from the WWII era. You will see the railroad loading platforms that served as the primary means of getting supplies in and out of the Depot, as well as several of the abandoned military storage buildings and the entrance to the high security area known as the “Q”, where nuclear armament and specialized weapons were stored.

The Second Annual Deer Haven Park Fall Wagon tour will be fun for the whole family! And if you have already had a chance to take the popular Deer Haven Park App-Guided Auto Tour, you won't want to miss the opportunity to actually step outside the vehicle and experience the park first-hand, up close and personal.

Come, explore the historic Seneca Army Depot with us on this special, one-day event and Discover Deer Haven Park!

Please note: In the interest of safety and social distancing, face masks must be worn while on board the wagons and whenever a safe distance cannot be maintained outside.  Tick repellant will be available for purchase at the Visitor Center.

But while trying his best to be a good boy, can he save the city from Flippy the cyborg fish and his army of Beasty Buildings? Can he catch Petey, the world’s most evil cat, who has cloned himself to exact revenge on the doggy do-gooder? And will George and Harold finish their show before lunchtime?? Find out in this epic musical adventure featuring the hilarity and heart of Dav Pilkey’s beloved characters.

The show is written by Kevin Del Aguila and Brad Alexander, who collaborated on the Emmy-winning series Peg + Cat on PBS, TheaterWorksUSA’s Click, Clack, Moo, and the upcoming Clifford The Big Red Dog on PBS and Amazon. Jen Wineman directs and choreographs.

Charming, self-deprecatingly funny, linguistically awesome, LeLand Gantt imbues every word that falls from his mouth with all the passion and poignancy of a preacher speaking the Gospel.

Dog Man: The Musical is a hilarious new production based on the worldwide bestselling series from Dav Pilkey, the creator of Captain Underpants.

Best buds George and Harold have been creating comics for years, but now that they’re in 5th grade, they figure it’s time to level up and write a musical based on their favorite character, Dog Man, the crime-biting sensation who is part dog, part man, and ALL HERO!! How hard could it be?

With the head of a dog and the body of a policeman, Dog Man loves to fight crime and chew on the furniture.

The Festival will kick off Friday at 5 p.m. with Boos and Brews, a Halloween-themed event featuring a costume contest, beer samplings and a live DJ. On Saturday, the festival opens at 12 p.m. with beer samplings from New York State breweries, distilleries and cideries.
