November '23 Gallery Night

Join us at the Grayhaven Motel to celebrate the works of artist Jessica Warner! Jessica is interested in painting as a complex and contradictory space that can hold multiple meanings, scales and time frames together, can reframe how we engage with familiar objects and spaces. Her work is grounded in the experience of close observation but through the process, moves toward abstraction, imagination and suggestion. She works with the same objects over time, rearranging them into new contexts, allowing patterns in meanings to emerge and evolve through the process of making.

Jessica Warner received a BFA magna cum laude from SUNY Purchase with a concentration in painting and drawing, also spending a summer studying in Italy.

In 2021 she had a solo show, The Color of Distance at The South Hill Gallery in Ithaca., NY. Other solo shows include By the Water at the Buffalo Arts Studio, Buffalo N.YFirst Person, and Twice Removed curated by Mara Baldwin at The Handwerker Gallery at Ithaca College. Her work has been featured in group exhibitions at galleries including Exhibit A in Corning, N.Y. The Memorial Art Gallery In Rochester N.Y. and The Community School of Music and Art (CSMA) Ithaca N.Y. Her work has been reviewed in the Ithaca Times and Tompkins Weekly. In 2023, she was awarded a residency at The Vermont Studio Center and her work was included in Stone Canoe issue 17.

Jessica currently teaches painting and drawing at Ithaca College and The Community School of Music and Art (CSMA). She lives and works in Ithaca, NY.

Celebration for the Turkeys
Farm Sanctuary's Celebration for the Turkeys

This fall, gather for our time-honored tradition, Celebration for the Turkeys. On November 4, we’ll express gratitude for each other and all living beings — but turkeys especially!

Thanksgiving season is supposed to be about gratitude, but the factory farming industry has co-opted it to promote the consumption of turkeys who’ve suffered tortured lives on industrial farms. Nearly 46 million turkeys will be killed in the U.S. this Thanksgiving alone.

Rather than supporting this cruel system, please join us for our compassionate holiday celebration!

Attendees will savor a Saturday of community connection with human and non-human animals, complete with a festive meal for our feathered friends.

Whether you will be a returning regular or visiting for the first time, Celebration for the Turkeys is a heartwarming event to experience Farm Sanctuary. In our care, turkeys and other animal agriculture survivors live free from harm. Their rescue stories and personalities change hearts and minds and help us create a more just and compassionate food system.

All humans welcome! Visit Farm Sanctuary to learn more and purchase your tickets.

“What is Real? When a child loves you for a long, long time, not just to play with, but really loves you, then you become Real.”

The power of play and childhood fantasy, the pure light of unconditional love – these timeless forces illuminate our faithful rendering of Margery Williams’ tale of friendship and the passing of time.  A lovely score and detailed period costumes will transport your audience back to the beginning of the last century.  There they will experience a particular innocence and wisdom that have much to say to our present culture of instant gratification and disposable friends.

Online anytime and on Ithaca cable TV channel 13 according to the schedule listed above.

This encore episode of Walk in the Park (#258) honors naturalist and song writer Becca Harber of Newfield, NY, who passed away a year ago. Becca was well-known and loved throughput the Ithaca community. We’ll show illustrated videos of Becca singing three of her original songs about her love of our natural world, recorded in two of our local state parks.
In the second half of the show, Sherene Baugher of the Friends of Robert H. Treman State Park tells us of Henrietta Wickham who opened the way for visitors to Lucifer Falls more than sixty years before her work inspired Robert Treman to create the park.

Walk in the Park is a non-commercial public access TV series produced in Ithaca NY by Owl Gorge Productions, a Finger Lakes Tourism Alliance partner.

Our annual Nouveau celebration began in 1977, the year we were established, as a way of celebrating our first harvest and we’ve continued the tradition every year since over our 40+ year history.

Each year, our Nouveau wine undergoes a quick primary fermentation before being racked and put in a wooden cask. The resulting wine is intensely fresh and fruity. We invite you to join us for a taste of our 2023 Nouveau wine straight from the cask!

Charcuterie: local cheeses, meat, fruit, crackers
Candied pecan whipped butternut squash
Roasted Fingerling potatoes with gorgonzola fondue

2023 Holiday Shopping Spree- November Weekend

Holiday Shopping Spree is back for its 29th year and ready to make you the thrifty multi-tasker that you are! Treat yourself while shopping for others and cross items off your gift list as you sample before you buy. Save money with your Holiday Shoppers Card. • November 18 & 19
  • 10:00am to 5:00pm
  • 11 participating wineries
  • This event is structured like our pre-2020 events:
    • Select a specific starting winery for you and your friends to start at. (This is where you’ll receive your souvenir wine glass and your hand-blown ornament!)
    • Travel the trail as you please after your first stop,
    • The ticket is good for BOTH days, so feel free to spread the wineries out over both days or come on just Saturday or just Sunday. (Pro-tip: Sunday tends to be a lighter day, so the wineries won’t be as crowded, which makes for an excellent time to visit and get more one-on-one attention with less waiting.)
  • Groups are limited to 12. If you ignore this limit, you risk being turned away from the participating wineries. Please help us make this event as fun and pleasant as possible for all by respecting the event policies and winery staff.
  • Expect diversity. Some wineries will be offering the standard bar tasting while others will be offering a sit-down experience* that may take longer. Take your time during the day and enjoy both!

There are two separate weekends of Deck the Halls, either November 17-19 (or December 1-3) and 2023 marks its 30th Anniversary and we couldn’t be more excited to celebrate! During this event, you’ll enjoy a self-guided tour of participating Seneca Lake Wine Trail wineries decked out for the holiday season, wine and food pairings at each stop, and collect keepsake ornaments along the way. Deck the Halls tickets are $130 per couple, $95 for an individual and $35 for non-tasters and good for all days so you can go one day or all three days.

holiday shopping spree on cayuga lake
2023 Holiday Shopping Spree- November Weekend

Holiday Shopping Spree is back for its 29th year and ready to make you the thrifty multi-tasker that you are! Treat yourself while shopping for others and cross items off your gift list as you sample before you buy. Save money with your Holiday Shoppers Card. You'll get a souvenir wine glass, a souvenir ornament, wine and food pairings, a digital recipe book, and $5 off a $35 wine purchase at every single winery! New this year- a chance to win a grand prize as you cross people off your list!

Tickets:

Each ticket is good for the whole weekend to visit each winery once. Single tickets are $85 and couples tickets are $120 (plus tax and service fee) and include:

  • 1 wine and food pairing at each winery, per person
  • 3 additional wine tastings per winery, per person
  • 1 hand-blown ornament per ticket (1 for a single ticket, 1 for a DD ticket, and 1 for a couples ticket)
  • 1 recipe collection, per ticket
  • 1 souvenir wine glass, per person

Discounted designated driver tickets are also available. The DD gets all the same perks as a regular ticket, minus the wine. They also get a ceramic mug, rather than a wine glass. $35 for a single (plus tax and service fee).

Participating Wineries:

  • Americana Vineyards
  • Buttonwood Grove Winery
  • Cayuga Ridge Estate Winery
  • Hosmer Winery
  • Knapp Winery
  • Lucas Vineyards
  • Montezuma Winery
  • Six Eighty Cellars
  • Six Mile Creek Vineyards
  • Swedish Hill Winery
  • Thirsty Owl Wine Co.

CIRQUE DREAMS HOLIDAZE dazzles with a brilliant and whimsical family holiday spectacular. This annual tradition wraps a Broadway-style production around an infusion of contemporary circus arts. As lights dim and the music swells, audiences will have visions of sugarplums dancing in their heads as a fantastical cast of holiday storybook characters come to life. Broadway World exclaims, “Lose yourself for 90 minutes and go back to those wonderful dreams you had as a kid.”

Imaginative and fun for children to seniors and everyone in between, CIRQUE DREAMS HOLIDAZE features a world-renowned cast of performers accompanied by an ensemble of aerial circus acts, sleight-of-hand jugglers, fun-loving skippers, breath-catching acrobatics, and much more.  An original music score includes new twists on seasonal favorites such as “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” and “Carol of the Bells.” Singers, dancers, penguins, toy soldiers, and reindeer invoke the dreams behind a child’s eye on the most magical of nights. Amidst a backdrop of new sets, scenery, and storylines, this family-friendly production is sure to put a twinkle in your eye!

Gorges with Double Vision

In this encore episode of Walk in the Park (from January, 2016), we visit several area gorges and compare photos taken for tourist stereographs with modern pictures, getting some insights into the histories of these scenic locations.

We visit Pinnacle Rock in Buttermilk Falls State Park, Fall Creek Gorge, Watkins Glen State Park, Havana Glen Park in Montour Falls. We also look at some silent film footage taken more than 100 years ago by the Wharton Studios at what is now Stewart Park in Ithaca in the marshlands formerly at the south end of Cayuga Lake. Then we look at three short videos of the Delaware Bay, Virginia Beach, and Jones Beach on Long Island.
